Bollywood filmmakers know very well how to pick up a good Hollywood film and mess it up and Vikram Bhatt is no exception. In 'Speed', he borrows from the Hollywood film 'Cellular', which, in turn is inspired from 'Phone Booth'. Despite the similarities, 'Speed' has several compelling moments and is not as predictable as one thought it would be.
Sandy (Zayed Khan) comes to London to convince his girlfriend Sanjana (Tanushree Dutta) to give him
another chance to prove his love for her. Meanwhile, Sanjay Suri, an undercover agent, receives a CD from
Aftab Shivdasani and Sophie Chaudhary, which contains the recording of his kidnapped wife, Richa (Urmila
Matondkar), and is asked to follow the instructions. He's completely confused. Soon he realizes that he is
being used as a weapon to assassinate the Prime Minister of India on the London tour. As he is still not
agreeing to plans, Aftab finally decides to kidnap his kid.
Meanwhile, Urmila starts trying to escape. She manages to dial a random number and it happens to be that
of Sandy. He agrees to go to the cops and help her. And as Sandy decides to help Urmila, his ladylove
threatens to break up again. A happy-go-lucky guy Sandy risks his own life to save an unknown family just
because of a call. And will Aftab and Sophie succeed in their plans is to be seen on the screen.
Performance:
Zayed Khan gets good role and he does justice to that. Sanjay Suri does well as an undercover agent who
works for the British Secret Service. Urmila excels in her role as Sanjay Suri's wife. Tanushree Dutta is
there for glamour. Aftab Shivdasani is wasted. Ditto for Sophie Choudhary. Ashish Chowdhary is superb as
the super-cop of London. Amrita Arora is alright. The other cast have done upto the content. Music by Pritam is good. All songs are catchy. Story and narration are fine. Cinematography is impressive. The other technical aspects are okay.
